Grace Pond Farm
A small, diversified, organically certified livestock and dairy farm in Thomaston, Maine
We farm the ancestral land of the Wawenock People of the Penobscot Tribe
Our Mission: “Pasture to Plate”
We employ mindful management practices to provide healthful, nourishing food for all people, and to care for the land that we farm in a way that honors the people who came before us and made their home here.
Who we are
Gregg and Rhiannon own and operate Grace Pond Farm with their two children, Ruby and Maden.
The rural, agricultural lands of Pennsylvania are where Gregg learned how to love early mornings and dairy cows. Growing up, he helped at the neighbor’s dairy farm where he liked to make feed and work hard, and that hasn’t changed much (though he’s not as much a fan of making hay in the sunshine as he once was). He heard all about how wonderful it is here in Maine, so after 15 years as a contractor, Gregg went back to farming and has been doing so ever since. He’s happiest among his herd, talking about forage, and can often be found bringing bouquets to his favorite cows and moving chickens around the fields so they can entertain him while they chase bugs and eat grass.
Rhiannon grew up in Central Maine, later moving Downeast, and not once thought of farming for a living. Growing up, she enjoyed having fresh milk delivered to her home twice a week from the local dairy farm, and fought her little brother for the cream at the top on Tuesday mornings - never considering that someone had woken up in the dark to feed cows and bottle that milk. After falling in love with a farmer, she now finds herself surrounded by livestock, talking all the time about forage and rural infrastructure systems, and spending late nights tending all manner of creatures. She never has to fight anyone for the cream on top of the milk though and feels pretty good about that.
Ruby is an aspiring actress, activist, advocate and maybe even attorney. She can probably be all of these things and more if she wants to. Small and fierce, but sweet and smart, she’s the best employee that GPF will never share with anyone else until they can’t help but have to. She learned to operate a tractor before a car, and while she’s no speed demon, she’s really going places.
Maden, also known as Mojo, is a junior scientist, animal lover, calf-halter-trainer and chief chicken roundup crew boss. He also runs the Brooder Team with his sister, and can be found shooting hoops in the dirt driveway, gathering eggs, settling in chicks and poults, and mining for exotic minerals and cool rocks.
This we believe
Grace Pond Farm is committed to creating healthful food options for all people, and working with this land in a way that we hope leaves it better for our having farmed here. We do this by raising pastured livestock organically and ethically; remaining mindful of the beautiful piece of Maine we live on. At Grace Pond Farm we believe that small is mighty, and dreams are never too big.
